BUCKFIELD – In two minutes, selectmen Monday night met to approve a special town meeting for Nov. 4 and then adjourned.

Chairman Chris Hayward called the meeting to order at 5:45 p.m. and read a motion to hold the meeting to elect a selectman to replace Oscar Gammon, who died recently.

Hayward and first term selectman Chip Richardson approved the motion and the meeting adjourned at 5:47 p.m.

Nomination papers will be available at the Buckfield Town Office on Tuesday and must be filed by Oct. 15.

Buckfield is taking advantage of special provisions in Maine state law that permit a shorter than normal election cycle to fill vacant positions.
