LEWISTON – The National Kidney Foundation serving Maine will offer a free health screening through the Kidney Early Evaluation Program (KEEP) on Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Lewiston City Hall, 27 Pine St.

The free health screening is for people at risk for kidney disease – area residents with diabetes, high blood pressure or a family history of kidney disease. A health risk appraisal, blood pressure measurement, blood and urine tests will be conducted on an anticipated 35 people throughout the day.

Twenty six million Americans have chronic kidney disease and most don’t know it. In Maine, 146,000 people are suffering from chronic kidney disease. Early detection and treatment, including lifestyle changes and medications, may slow or prevent its progression to kidney failure and lessen the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Preregistration is required. For more information, contact Jaime Hanks, regional program director, at 772-7270 weekdays or 329-4025 mobile phone for onsite and weekends.
