Community park
The scoop: Town administrator Rhonda Irish announced that the recreation committee has issued an invitation to an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. Oct. 7, for people to view accomplishments at Minot Community Park next to Minot Consolidated School. Work has been completed on three new athletic fields and one half of the walking trail system. Soccer games are scheduled for that afternoon and refreshments will be available.
Road salt
The scoop: Road manager Arlan Saunders told selectmen that according to the terms of the bid for road salt, Minot has contracted for no more than 800 tons of salt at $73.43 per ton. He noted that the cost is 35 percent higher than last year’s $54.53 and supplies are low, so the town is only guaranteed the 800 tons. He said that, due to cost and availability, he plans to use less salt in the mixture this winter and that drivers may have to contend with roads that are a little less bare than they have become accustomed to.
Route 119 closure
The scoop: Selectman Dan Callahan reported that he had heard that work putting the new box culvert in the washout on Route 119 just east of West Minot Village could be complete by mid-October. He did not know whether that meant the road would be paved and open to traffic at that time.
Town road repair
The scoop: Road manager Arlan Saunders reported that the road crew will complete work repairing Millett Road this week and with that, all town roads damaged in the flash floods of Aug. 16, will be ready for paving, expected to be done in two or three weeks. He said roadside mowing operations will probably resume later this week and that for most roads in town the first and second mowings of the season will be simultaneous.
