FAIRFIELD – Seven high school bands performed at Lawrence High School on Sept. 20 in the first show of the Maine Band Directors Association’s 2008 marching band season. Also on hand for an exhibition performance was the Pride of Maine, the University of Maine Black Bear Marching Band.

The high school bands were evaluated and received star ratings in the six areas of drum major, color guard, percussion, visual, music, and general effect as well as receiving an overall rating.

Lawrence High School and Marshwood High School received an overall rating of one star for their performances.

Bands receiving overall ratings of two stars were Biddeford, Edward Little, Old Orchard Beach, South Portland and Westbrook.

The next band show sponsored by MBDA will be hosted by Westbrook High School at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27.
