AUGUSTA – The Maine Office of Tourism’s Web site, www.visitmaine.com, has received three prestigious awards.

The Maine site was a 2008 Official Honoree selection at The Webby Awards, which honor the best of the Web internationally. The designation was achieved by fewer than 15 percent of the competition’s 10,000 entries. Other honorees included the Minnesota Department of Tourism, Idaho Department of Tourism and Great Britain.

At the Travel Weekly Magellan Awards, Visitmaine.com won the Silver Magellan Award in the online travel services/Web site category. Other 2008 Silver Travel Weekly Magellan Award Winners were Kayak.com, Orbitz.com and Five Star Alliance. The Magellan Awards are the premier awards program honoring the best in the travel industry.

And, at the Web Marketing Association’s WebAwards, the site was given the Outstanding Web site Award. The WebAwards is America’s premiere annual Web site award competition. Other award winners were Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Online, TripAdvisor and Aspen/Snowmass.

The Web site contractor, Portland Webworks, is a software development firm in Portland and represents businesses and state agencies throughout the country.
