LEWISTON – The Jesus Party Pentecostal Kids’ Church has announced its October schedule. All events are free for children ages 5 and up. All services will take place at Jesus Party Headquarters, 291 Bates St., at 6 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
The ministry will place special emphasis on October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Outreach directors Douglas and Sonia Taylor made a pledge in 2000 along with 60 other local churches and religious organizations, signing a Declaration Against Violence.
The Taylors ask membership, individually and collectively, to select one or two causes for research and action annually. Inner-city children will receive purple ribbons and participate in candlelight services followed by prayer, song and a moment of silence in remembrance of all victims of violence.
On Friday, Oct. 3, the assistant pastor, James Span, will lead volunteer staff to the Triangle of Hope Memorial Bench/Carole Cross Memorial in Patriot’s Park, Pine Street. The group will pray, reflect and leave a bouquet of flowers.
The children’s ministry will also make a financial contribution to the Abused Women’s Advocacy Project and the Sexual Assault Crisis Center.
October is also regarded as Clergy Appreciation Month, and the urban youth outreach is extending an open invitation to all clergy, ministry leaders, Sunday school teachers and those involved in faith-based leadership to join them at services throughout the month.
Participating leaders will receive recognition and a special gift. Those interested should make reservations so preparations can be made.
Fire Prevention Week is observed in October and on Saturday, Oct. 11, there will be a showing of “Amazing Heroes.” Children will also participate in a prayer service for firefighters. A moment of silence will be held for all rescue workers who have given their lives in the line of duty. Plastic firefighter action figures will be passed out.
The Jesus Party will hold its annual “Nine Innings of Praise” on Saturday, Oct. 25, to honor baseball, America’s national pastime. The Taylors will host an evening complete with popcorn, hot dogs and baseball memorabilia. Children will throw out the first pitch, sing “Take Me Out to the 01′ Ball Game” and have a seventh inning stretch. Baseball bloopers will be shown on a big screen and a children’s sermon, “Life Lessons from the Game,” will be taught.
The Jesus Party ministry is looking for individuals who can provide resources, talent and/or donations. For more information, call 786-5568.
