Dear Sun Spots: I graduated from Mid-State College. It has since closed and I am looking at going back to school. I need to know if it is possible to obtain my records from there and if so how? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. – No Name, Wilton.

Answer: According to the state of Maine’s Web site, when a Maine post-secondary school or college closes, the Maine Department of Education seeks to acquire the academic records of the closed institution so that they will be preserved. They do not have the records from all closed schools, but they do have Mid-State College transcripts. There is a $3 fee per copy, checks payable to Treasurer, State of Maine. To request a transcript, mail your payment to Transcript Request, Maine Department of Education, 23 State House Station, Augusta, ME 04333-0023.

You can also contact MDOE by e-mail. Send requests for transcripts, or questions about obtaining them, to transcripts.highered@maine.gov. Please put the word “Transcript” in the subject line of your e-mail. Please be advised that MDOE will not mail any transcript until your payment received.

In your requests, please include the name of the closed school, your full name, any other name you might have used while attending the school, the years you attended, your date of birth and Social Security number, your address at the time you attended the school, and your current contact information, address, telephone and e-mail if available.

For additional information, you can visit the state Web site at www.state.me.us/education/highered.

Dear Sun Spots: Cote’s Sewing & Fabric Center would like to thank all the Sunspots readers who answered our plea. Because of you, we once again have an ample supply of fleece and yarn and we encourage all sewers and knitters to stop by our store and get some to make “Mittens for Kids.” On Dec. 5 and 6, we will be delivering your donations to WCSH and the Salvation Army as part of their Coats and Toys for Kids campaign. With the high cost of fuel, the need is greater than ever. Because of your generous support, together we can keep our Maine children warm. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
