Rummage sale

PARIS – A large rummage sale will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Paris Universalist Church’s Good Cheer Hall, 36 Pine St. Items will include clothing for fall and winter, furniture, linens, kitchenware, tools, toys, puzzles, books, appliances and collectibles. For $1, a large plastic bag can be purchased after 12:30 p.m.

Church supper

PARIS – A baked ham supper will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Deering Memorial Methodist Church, Main and Church streets. The menu will include baked ham, beans, casseroles and gingerbread with whipped cream. Cost is $7 for adults and $3 for children under 12. There is parking behind the library and town office.

Saturday suppers

SUMNER – The Congregational Church of East Sumner is resuming first Saturday suppers on Oct. 4. The supper will include spaghetti with veggie options at 5:30 p.m. Donations will be accepted to benefit the youth group. Following the supper, all interested can help with a banner making and repairing session.

Saturday, Nov. 1, there will be a baked chicken supper at 6 p.m. Donations will benefit Pilgrim Lodge; Saturday, Dec. 6, potluck supper at 5:30 p.m., followed by decorating the church for Christmas. For more information, contact Peggy Bragg at 388-2074.

Sunday speaker

PARIS – The speaker for the Sunday, Oct. 5, worship service at the First Universalist Church will be Marilyn Hammond. The sermon title for the 10 a.m. service will be “The Forgiveness That Comes Hardest.”

Music is under the direction of Forest Perkins. Sunday school resumes on Sunday and is under the direction of Renee Wales. Coffee and fellowship will follow the brunch service downstairs in Good Cheer Hall. All are welcome and childcare is available.

Sunday event

NORWAY – World Communion Sunday will be celebrated at the Second Congregational Church, UCC, 205 Main St., on Sunday, Oct. 5.

World Communion Sunday (originally called World Wide Communion Sunday) originated in the Presbyterian Church in 1936. Today many denominations around the world, including the United Church of Christ, celebrate World Communion Sunday. Traditionally, it is a time when all pray for peace.

The church is a member of the United Church of Christ. Worship and church school are held at 10 a.m. Sundays. A nursery, staffed by professional childcare workers, is available for infants and toddlers. Following services every week, there is a traditional coffee fellowship hour.

Following coffee hour on Oct. 5, the Rev. Leslie Foley will begin an acolyte training for school-age children. For more information, contact the church office at 743-2290.

Church activities

PARIS – Trinity Lutheran Church, 34 Buckfield Road, Paris, welcomes all to Sunday school and “Making the Old Story Our Story” at 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 5. Worship service will follow at 10:15 a.m., then there will be coffee, refreshments and fellowship.

All are also welcome to Bible study of the book of John at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, followed with refreshments.

Supper, dance

GREENWOOD – A harvest supper dance will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at the Locke Mills American Legion Hall. Doors will open at 4. Music will be by the Richard Felt Orchestra and the supper by the AL Auxiliary. Cost will be adults, $10; children, $3.
