A Pittston man spent Tuesday in a Boston hospital recovering from injuries from a blasting accident suffered three days earlier at a job site in Kingman Township.

Michael Norton, 30, was the driller at a site near Lincoln when the accident occurred at 4:30 p.m. Friday, according to Kathy Guerin, marketing director for Maine Drilling & Blasting, the Gardiner-based firm doing the blasting.

“We are currently investigating the incident,” Guerin said. “We don’t know the root cause. We do know there was a premature detonation in close proximity to the crew and it injured our drill operator.”

Three people were at the site, she said: the driller, the blaster-in-charge and a laborer. No one else was injured.

“It’s horrible enough that one was injured,” Guerin said. “We take safety seriously and practice safety daily.”
