BUCKFIELD – Michael Miclon and Mike Vayda of NotFar.org will present “Not Far from … South Africa” Saturday, Oct. 11, at Oddfellow Theater as the first in a series of programs designed to help people get closer to the good being done worldwide. The goal is to also provide opportunities for people to get involved.

NotFar.org is a nonprofit organization that helps humanitarian organizations around the world through creative communication. NotFar’s goal is to help more people and to persuade more people to reach out to others.

The focus of the Oct. 11 presentation will be on the plight of orphans due to HIV/AIDS in South Africa and the efforts of the Imbasa Educational Foundation to provide scholarships to these children.

The 7 p.m. program will include a look at this devastating disease, stories from the road in South Africa, an interview with Imbasa founder Seth Chadbourne and a question-and-answer session with Miclon and Vayda.

The evening will conclude with the Maine premier of “Imbasa Launching Bright Futures,” a short film shot on location by filmmakers Miclon and Vayda. The film had its American debut at the Tribeca Theater in New York City this past June.

Admission is free but donations will be accepted. Reservations are required; call the Oddfellow Theater box office at 336-3306. For more information, log on to www.NotFar.org.
