GREENE – Kelly Beth Safford and Jeremy Lavertu, along with their family and friends, are pleased to announce their engagement to be married.

The future bride is the daughter of Elizabeth Donnell of Greene and Kenneth Safford of Woolwich. She is currently enrolled at Unity College for her bachelor’s degree in environmental education and teacher certification of life sciences.

The future bridegroom is the son of William and Andrea Lavertu of Turner. He received his bachelor’s degree in ecology from Unity College in 2007. He is continuing his education at Husson College, working on his master’s degree in business.

The couple first met in 2003 in their sociology class at Leavitt Area High School. Five years later, on their fifth anniversary, the couple hiked Mount Katahdin, where Mr. Lavertu proposed to Miss Safford at the summit.

The couple is planning a fall wedding. Being active and loving the outdoors, the couple will honeymoon at Acadia National Park.
