A request for the grading of lower Bartlett Street was received at the October meeting of the Lewiston board of public works held Monday evening. A. Beliveau, who is erecting a block there, appeared in support of it. It was voted to build a culvert, at a cost not to exceed $50, in front of the home of Councilman I.L. Hammond, upper College Street. Chairman Dennett and Supt. Ryan were chosen to see that the sidewalk near Daniel Chapman’s house on Warren Avenue was straightened.

Auburn Mayor Herbert E. Callahan did the honor with a pair of scissors at the official ribbon-cutting ceremony that opened the Auburn-Lewiston Air Reserve Center at 45 Court St. Saturday night.

More than 60 dignitaries and guests, including Air Reserve officers from Portland, Rumford, Augusta and Union, attended the opening of the new center which will bring together under one roof administrative offices, training facilities and classrooms for the reserve squadron. M/Sgt. Lawrence McGinnis of Auburn will be in charge of the Reserve facilities in Auburn.

Do you want to earn some extra spending money? Would you like a chance to explore a new career? Are you tired of being in the house all day? Do you have a college degree that you have never had a chance to use?

If you replied “yes” to any of these questions, serving as a substitute teacher may be the answer.

The Auburn School Department reports a need for substitute teachers. It is willing to train prospective substitutes so that they will feel comfortable in this role and can provide appropriate instruction. Substitutes must have attended at least two years of college but do not need teacher training. Positions are available at all levels at all schools.
