RANGELEY – New England Celtic Arts will host Maine’s popular Acadian band Boréal Tordu at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Lakeside Theater. This will be the 10th concert in the Lakeside/Skye Theatre collaboration this summer.

Boréal Tordu began when fiddler Steve Muise and singer Robert Sylvain discovered a mutual interest in the music of their shared Acadian heritage. Their music represents a continuation of musical traditions passed down from the Acadians, the Québécois and the unique French-speaking people of the the Republic of Madawaska and mill towns all over New England.

Muise’s parents are first- and second-generation Acadians from Nova Scotia. He plays his late grandfather’s accordion and a violin handmade in Maine. He teaches orchestra and The Franklin County Fiddlers in Farmington.

Sylvain recently discovered his Acadian roots and the rich musical heritage that comes with it. He has reworked many of his earlier songs, as well as written originals in French. When not with his family, writing or playing dobro, he does sound acquisition for film and video. He is also artistic director of Gigafone Records, which features documentary-style recordings of acoustic music in unusual settings.

Pip Walter is a well-known multi-instrumentalist from the Portland music scene. He has an uncanny ability not only to find that elusive third vocal harmony, but to sing it en français during rehearsal before ever having heard the lyrics. For this the band bestowed on him the title of honorary Franco-Maniac.

Andy Buckland, on vocals and stand-up bass, is the newest addition to the band. He is another Francophile-Acadian by marriage and lives in Farmington.

Tickets are $10 at the door. Reservations suggested. Call 864-5000. Lakeside Theater is in the center of the business district on Main Street. For more information, log on to www.necelticarts.com.
