Marc Roger Couturier of Greene completed his doctoral dissertation on Sept. 23, at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta. Couturier pursued his PhD in medical microbiology and immunology with a specialization in bacteriology.
Through his research publications, Couturier has contributed to the understanding of bacterial-associated stomach diseases, including ulcers and cancer. During his studies, he was awarded the Killam Scholarship, the highest honor awarded to graduate students at the University of Alberta.
Couturier also holds a temporary research appointment at the Alberta Provincial Laboratory for Microbiology in Edmonton, after which in 2009, he will begin a medical fellowship in clinical microbiology at the University of Utah department of Pathology in Salt Lake City.
He completed his bachelors in science with honors in biology at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, in 2003. He is a 1999 graduate of Leavitt Area High School in Turner. He is married to Brianne Couturier of Edmonton, Alberta. Couturier is the son of Roger P. and Lucille Couturier of Greene.
