LEWISTON – The Cardinals rushed for a season-high 199 yards, with Greg McDonough gaining 38 of them and two touchdowns on eight carries, as Wesleyan took a commanding 35-8 victory over Bates in football action Saturday afternoon.

The Cardinals (1-3) dominated the first half with 231 yards of offense in building a 28-0 lead at intermission.

Junior running back Judd Smith gave the Bobcats (0-4) an offensive spark in the second half, rushing 14 times for 59 yards and a 2-yard touchdown to put Bates on the board for the first time after Wesleyan scored the first 35 points.

The Bobcats sustained another long drive on their next possession, advancing 65 yards on 17 plays before stalling at the Wesleyan 23 when sophomore QB Ryan Larson was sacked by Mandela Kazi.

Amherst 23, Colby 2

AMHERST, Mass. – Amherst held the Mules to 106 yards of total offense as the Lord Jeffs cruised to a 23-2 victory over Colby in NESCAC football action Saturday.

The Mules (2-2) stayed in the game early in a scoreless first quarter, but Amherst (3-1) marched down the field early in the second quarter and scored the first of 16 points in the frame when Brian Murphy caught a 9-yard pass from quarterback Alex Vetras.

The Mules scored their only points on a safety when the Lord Jeffs snapped the ball over the punter’s head and through the end zone with 1:31 left in the third quarter.

Gardiner Parker led Colby’s defense with nine tackles, while Tom Daley had seven stops. Alex Halls and Richard Newton both had five tackles for the Mules.

Hamilton 28, Bowdon 17

CLINTON, N.Y. – Mark Snickenberger rushed for four touchdowns as Hamilton College drove out Bowdoin 28-17 in NESCAC football action Saturday.

Two of the Continental’s (2-2) first three drives ended in touchdowns, and Snickenberger scored again from 2 yards out with 13:55 left in the second quarter.

The Polar Bears (1-3) scored the next 17 points to cut their deficit to 21-17 with 11:33 in the fourth quarter, but Snickenberger recorded another touchdown with 1:43 remaining.

Quarterback Oliver Kell went 15-for-30 for 236 yards with two touchdown passes and two interceptions for the Polar Bears. Senior Tim Kelleher led Bowdoin with 84 yards receiving.
