PARIS – The week of Sept. 7 to 13 was proclaimed National Assisted Living Week by the National Center for Assisted Living, and events were in full swing at the 28-bed unit of the Maine Veterans’ Home in South Paris.
Special events were scheduled each day and the theme was “Filling Life with Love.” Activities included baking cookies for residents and staff members, reading of a letter from President George Bush, sharing a special cake at lunch and planting a Tree of Life in the yard. “The tree will be enjoyed by residents, staff and visitors for years to come,” said Peter Kilgore, residential care activities staff member.
The residential care unit is home to 28 residents, veterans and widows or spouses. It is part of the multi-level care facility, which houses 90 residents in all.
