Danielle Hebert, 18, of Madison told police a mechanical failure in the front end of her 1991 Volkswagen sedan caused it to crash Wednesday morning off the northbound side of Washington Street in Auburn, police Lt. Rick Coron said. Hebert complained of pain, according to the report, and was seen at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston and released, a nursing supervisor said Wednesday night. The car was totaled in the 11 a.m. accident, which was investigated by officer James Phillips.
