LEWISTON – A Sebago man shot at his home during an altercation with police was being treated at a Lewiston hospital Wednesday night.

Early reports were that a Cumberland County Sheriff’s deputy shot the man after he allegedly aimed a shotgun at police.

According to the WGME Web site, Douglas Tenczar, 41, had threatened deputies earlier in the night while driving.

Police later located Tenczar at his home at 31 Ledge Drive. The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department said Tenczar approached deputies with a gun and shots were fired.

Rescue crews called for a LifeFlight helicopter, which took Tenczar to a Lewiston hospital with multiple gunshot wounds, at least one to the abdomen.

Tenczar was believed to be in surgery at Central Maine Medical Center late Wednesday night. The Attorney General’s Office is investigating, which is standard procedure.
