NORWAY – The Friends of Little Field Home have recognized Claire Cummings, 17, of Norway, for her service in Malawi, Africa. The Friends of Little Field Home supports the Little Field Home orphanage and medical clinic in Malawi by providing financial and developmental support. The Little Field Home houses 72 orphans and supports 50 families.

“Claire worked extensively with the children on reading and writing skills,” said Janet Littlefield, who led the trip. She is executive director of Friends of Little Field Home. “She worked with the community on farming projects, completing research on drought-resistant trees and how to best irrigate and fertilize the crops.”

Cummings lived in the Chigamba Village, located in the southeast corner of Malawi, from July 1 to 25. Chigamba Village does not have electricity or running water. The village is in an area that has extreme poverty.

“Claire worked tirelessly to give hope to the vulnerable children in this poverty stricken area,” said Littlefield.

Cummings said, “This trip was an amazing experience, unlike any I have ever known. I feel very grateful.”
