One of the finest barns in Androscoggin County has been built by Henry McCusker on his farm near Crowley’s Junction. Mr. McCusker has about 300 acres of land with beautiful groves and fine pasture. He is logging out a lot of it so as to have more pasture. Among other things, he has built a beautiful little bungalow on a sightly knoll on the farm. During part of the season it has been occupied by the Sisters of Charity.

A wet, shivering dog, which stood lonely vigil over a grave for three days, was placed in a kennel yesterday by Lewiston police.

Police Captain Rene J. Larrivee said the department received word yesterday that the dog had not moved from a grave marker for three successive days beginning last Wednesday.

The grave was located in the Garcelon cemetery on the Ferry road. Officer Lionel Beauchesne and department maintenance man Charles Tuttle went to the cemetery and found a black and white male dog with no collar. The animal was taken to the Androscoggin Kennel at Lisbon.

It would be an understatement to say that the Central Maine Youth Center has been a crowded place over the years during the winter months. The Lewiston-Auburn Youth Hockey Association is one of the largest in New England and has been the rink’s chief tenant, but the usage doesn’t stop with the youth leagues.

Countless hockey and skating clinics, tournaments and other events are held at CMYC, topped off by the fact that it is home to four area high school teams and the site of the Maine high school playoffs.

Needless to say, ice time is often hard to get from October through early March.

But the Auburn Youth Hockey Association has come up with a good start in relieving some of the pressure for ice time and expenses. An outdoor rink, under construction since early fall behind Hasty Community Center, is scheduled to be completed by early December.

The rink will basically be used for Auburn Youth Hockey, public skating, junior and senior high school practice, figure skating, instructional hockey and other outside interests. It will measure 200 feet in length, and will be 85 feet wide.
