A new recording machine was installed in Lewiston Police Department headquarters yesterday afternoon. The new device is the second such unit to be installed which will record all police department conversations. The latest machine to be added records all telephone calls.

Earlier this month the police obtained a unit which now puts all radio conversations on wide rolls of plastic tape. When filled, the tape can be filed and later referred to if questions about conversations arise. The machines are located in the dispatcher’s office.

25 years ago, 1983

Several Maine artists will be featured entertainers for the special musical program during the Cabaret Quebecois to take place at 8 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Knights of Columbus Hall on East Avenue in Lewiston.

Alexis J. Cote Sr., former music director in both Lewiston and Portland public school systems, will be the master of ceremonies and will also be the leader for the popular sing-a-long. The program will open with the singing of the theme of the Cabaret Quebecois, which was written by Gerard Lajoie. The Cabaret Quebecois, an annual affair, is sponsored by Le Centre d’Heritage of the University of Maine, Lewiston-Auburn Center.
