CARTHAGE – New England Celtic Arts will host Colin Grant Sunday, Nov. 2, at Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center in Carthage and Monday, Nov. 3, at the Lakeside Theater in Rangeley.

Raised in Toronto, Grant began his musical career at age 4 at the Royal Conservatory of Music. By 10, he began taking lessons in Cape Breton-style traditional music; and at the Gaelic College of Celtic Arts and Crafts, he studied piano accompaniment and step dancing in addition to fiddle.

When his family moved to Cape Breton in 1998, Grant immersed himself in the local music scene. Starting in the summer of 2002, he was cast in Cape Breton Lyrics and Laughter, a revue-style show featuring Cape Breton music and comedy.

In 2003, Grant was accepted into the National Artists Program in Canada. Besides performances all over the Maritime Provinces, he had the opportunity to bring Cape Breton music to Indonesia for the Canadian International Seafood Festival in April of 2004. He has toured Canada, France and China with the award-winning Acadian group Blou and also tours regularly with the Halifax-based band Pogey.

Joining Grant for the concerts in Carthage and Rangeley will be Cape Breton singer/songwriter Jason MacDonald, whose debut 2002 CD, “Leave My Mark,” earned critical acclaim and sold well. With the release of his follow-up CD, “The Day,” which earned him an ECMA 2006 Award nomination, he continues to create “an original sound of contemporary folk infused with an adult alternative mix and lasting lyrical impressions,” according to his Web site, www.jasonmacdonald.com/index.html.

Both concerts will begin at 7 p.m.; reservations are suggested at both venues. Tickets are $10 at the door. Call 562-4445. There will be a preshow jam session at the Skye Theatre performance starting at 6:15 p.m. Audience members are encouraged to bring instruments to jam for a few minutes with performers. Skye Theater is at 2 Highland Drive off Winter Hill Road and U.S. Route 2. Lakeside Theater is on Main Street in Rangeley.
