LEWISTON – Douglas and Sonia Taylor, directors of the Pentecostal kids’ church, the Jesus Party, have announced the newest addition to their ministerial staff, along with the November schedule of events.
The Taylors have chosen the Rev. James Span to fulfill the position of assistant pastor in the urban youth outreach. Span studied theology at Faith School of Theology in Charleston and is a licensed minister with the North American Ministerial Association.
Span, his wife, Christine, and son, Isaiah, are looking forward to ministering to inner city youth. The role of assistant pastor includes home and hospital visitation, Bible teaching, youth event chaperoning and working with the Taylors in acknowledging special memorials, observances and celebrations.
A special installation reception will be held in their honor at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1.
A “Celebrate Our President” program will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7. Children will sing patriotic hymns and see a video on “History of the Presidency.”
Children will also discover how a person becomes president and learn the qualities necessary for the position. At the end of the evening they will have red, white and blue cupcakes.
The ministry’s patriotic mentor, Jerry DerBoghosian, will observe Veteran’s Day with the children at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14. The “Pledge of Allegiance” will be recited, patriotic hymns will be sung and a moment of silence and prayer will be offered for all veterans.
Friday Nov. 21, at 6 p.m. “Veggie-Tales Movie Night, Tomato Sawyer and Huckleberry Larry’s Big River Rescue” will be shown. The theme is a lesson on helping others. Everyone will have theater popcorn, candy and soda.
“Thanksgiving at the Jesus Party” will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28. Children will have holiday treats while they learn about sharing, gratitude and leadership. They will see a video on William Bradford. Opportunity will be given to everyone to share what they are thankful for.
