SALEM – Dimitrije Popovic netted three goals, one of which was scored on a 50-yard breakaway, to give top-ranked Mt. Abram a 4-1 victory over No. 8 Traip in a cold and snowy Western Class C boys’ soccer quarterfinal matchup Wednesday.
Alex Crossman rounded out the scoring effort in what proved to be a very physical contest for the Roadruners, while Ian Daly was credited with two assists.
Sam Simpson made five saves in net to preserve the win.
Traip (7-9) had three cards called against them, including one red. The loan goal was tallied by Wiley Sheehan off a crossed-pass by Brett Concord.
Mt. Abram (12-2-1) advances to Saturday’s semifinal round to face fellow Mountain Valley Conference foe Georges Valley. The Roadrunners defeated the Buccaneers in their only meeting of the season.
