LEWISTON – The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing will offer two presentations for lung cancer patients and survivors, their loved ones and caregivers in November.
“Coping with Lung Cancer Together,” with Katherine Kemp, oncology social work intern at the Dempsey Center, will be presented from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, Nov. 4 from 6, in Conference Room H on the lower level of the 12 High Medical Office Building.
Kemp will share tips for coping and communicating when confronted with the challenges presented by a lung cancer diagnosis.
“Thriving after Lung Cancer,” with lung cancer survivor Debbie Violette, will be the subject of discussion from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, in Conference Room H at 12 High Street.
Violette is a 10-year survivor of stage III lung cancer, who was given a 10 percent chance of living two years when she was diagnosed. As a result of her experience with the illness, she set a personal priority to help change healthcare policy, raise awareness, provide support to others and help erase the stigma associated with lung cancer.
Violette is involved in the Lung Cancer Alliance, Dana Farber Lung SPORE, the National Lung Cancer Partnership and the LIVESTRONG Foundation. She also serves as a patient advocate on the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center Oncology Board, based in Lebanon, N.H.
Both presentations are free. Light refreshments will be provided. Preregistration is required by calling 795-8250 or 1-877-DEMPCTR.
