An Auburn man got on the car at Turner Street near the overhead bridge the other morning. His brindle bull dog watched him get on, but was told himself to keep away. The car started and so did the brindle dog. At the corner of Turner and French streets, the dog was abreast the car. When the car swung down onto Center Street, the dog was humping it over the brow of the hill, and when the car went up Howard Hill brindle was still in sight. It was supposed that the dog, finding himself out-distanced, would give up, but he was a wise animal. The car had not been in East Auburn more than three minutes, before up the road, going as fast as when he started, rushed the brindle dog.

The Bates Hotel Inc. property at 162 Middle St. in Lewiston has been leased to Spofford’s Calso Station of 135 Bates St. and the downtown area will be turned into a modern parking lot, it was learned last night.

Service station partners Arthur N. Bissonette and Noel Ouellette, both former police officers, announced the recent signing of a five-year lease. The hotel property abuts the westerly side of their filling station facilities.

Bissonette said the former hotel property will be strictly for parking purposes and it will be operated as the “B & O Parking Center” although actually a part of the present service station business.
