NEWRY – Advanced skiers and snowboarders who arrive at Sunday River Ski Resort in Halloween costumes on Friday will get free lift tickets.

“Opening on Halloween is a great treat to offer skiers and riders across New England and we’re proud to be able to offer it,” general manager Dana Bullen stated in a Wednesday afternoon statement.

To help make snow early in the season, the resort added new snow-making technologies over the summer, including tower guns and fan guns.

“We’re counting on continued snow-making tonight and tomorrow night and should have a solid base of a few inches by Friday,” resort spokesman Nick Lambert stated Wednesday afternoon by e-mail.

Open terrain on Friday will be on the upper mountain and for advanced skiers and riders only. Trails T2, Upper Sunday Punch and Jim’s Whim will be open, with a small terrain park built on T2.

Lift access, which starts at 10 a.m. Friday, will be on the Locke Mountain Triple. Depending on temperatures and snow, additional trails may open for the weekend. The resort will remain open on Saturday and Sunday before closing for the midweek period.

Lift tickets for the noncostumed are $25.
