POLAND – The rock opera “Jesus Christ, Superstar” will come to life at Dr. Robert Wall Theatre Nov. 5-8, courtesy of the Poland Players.

The show which made “super stars” out of creators Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice has captivated audiences since its Broadway premiere in 1971.

“Jesus Christ, Superstar,” which tells the story of the last seven days in the life of Jesus of Nazareth, changed the face of musical theater with its incorporation of modern rock musical influences into an operatic format.

The show dramatizes Jesus’ relationship with Judas and with Mary Magdalene, his entry into Jerusalem, the unrest caused by his preaching and popularity, his betrayal by Judas, his trial and his crucifixion.

Still, the show offers hope with Jesus himself singing, “There’s not one of you that cannot reach the kingdom.”

The score features such popular songs as “I Don’t Know How to Love Him,” “Heaven on Their Minds,” “Hosanna,” and, of course, “Superstar.”

Showtime is 7 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for students and seniors. For more information and reservations, call 998-5400, extension 218. Dr. Robert Wall Theatre is in Poland Regional High School, 1457 Maine St., off Route 26.
