PASSADUMKEAG (AP) – Maine state police have warned Penobscot Valley residents to lock their doors, keep their lights on and report any suspicious activity after a woman in her 60s was beaten and raped by a man who forced his way into her home.

Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said the woman reported that the assault occurred early Wednesday.

Passadumkeag is a community of about 440 people about 15 miles north of Old Town.

A state police evidence team and several detectives went to the woman’s house to assist in the investigation.

McCausland said the woman was taken by ambulance to Penobscot Valley Hospital in Lincoln and transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor before she was released.
