AUGUSTA (AP) – Heating oil prices continue to slide in Maine and are now nearly $2 a gallon cheaper than they were at their peak in July.

According to the state energy office’s weekly survey released Monday, the average cash price for a gallon of heating oil is $2.80. That’s 3 cents lower than a week ago and 82 cents lower than early October.

The average price of heating oil in Maine peaked at $4.71 a gallon in July.

The latest survey says the lowest average price is found in southern Maine, with the highest price in the state’s central region.

Kerosene is now averaging $3.38 a gallon, while propane sells for $2.98.
