CARRABASSETT VALLEY – Sugarloaf began snowmaking operations in preparation for the 2008-2009 ski season on Monday.

A news release from the resort said, “snowmakers began to blanket the Tote Road trail in snow” Monday morning.

Forecasts call for cold temperatures throughout the week, and snowmaking operations are expected to continue around the clock as the resort gets ready to open for the season on Friday, the release noted.

The resort plans to open with skiing and riding on Tote Road, with lift service on the SuperQuad chairlift.

“We got everything online and running this morning, and forecasts are looking favorable for a good window of snowmaking before Friday,” said Rich Wilkinson, Sugarloaf’s vice president of operations in a prepared statement.
