PARIS – A 43-year-old West Paris man will go to prison for three years after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl in Oxford last June.

Gene I. Hamilton’s plea resulted in dismissal of a gross sexual assault charge.

Hamilton, of 21 Briggs St., pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a minor and admitted a probation violation on an earlier assault charge.

Oxford County Superior Court Justice John Nivison accepted a recommendation by Assistant District Attorney Richard Beauchesne to revoke Hamilton’s probation and have him serve the remaining two-and-a-half years on the assault charge, as well as six months of a five-year sentence on the sex charge.

Hamilton will also serve two years probation on the sex charge, register as a sex offender for 10 years, undergo sex offender and substance abuse counseling. He can not have contact with children under the age of 16 except family members with adult supervision.

Hamilton was also indicted on charges of burglary, two counts of assault and one of criminal mischief in November 2006. Those stem from entering a trailer in Paris in October 2006 and assaulting a 19-year-old man and his girlfriend, officer Raymond Paar said.

Hamilton pleaded guilty to one count of assault in January and was ordered to serve six months of a three-year sentence with three years of probation.

Probation officer Wayne Sturdivant filed two motions to revoke Hamilton’s probation in that matter, citing the new charges Hamilton was indicted on in August and Hamilton’s departure from a program at the St. Francis House in Auburn.
