Church sale
OXFORD – The Oxford SDA Church, 259 Fore St., is taking orders for grapefruit, navel oranges, tangerines and variety packs by Friday, Nov. 28, with fruit available for pickup on Dec. 15 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the church. Call 345-3814, 743-6673 or 743-6403 to order.
The church will hold a craft/bake/rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14. There are tables for rent for $15. Call 665-2776 for rental or more information.
VFW supper
JAY – A spaghetti and meatballs dinner will be served from 4 p.m. until food is gone on Saturday, Nov. 29, at the Jay VFW, Route 133. Proceeds will benefit the Young Marines group. Cost is $6 a person.
Hosting teens
OXFORD – Hosanna Church, 109 Schoolhouse Road, will host the Maine Teen Challenge team Sunday at the 10 a.m. service.
Teen Challenge recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. It was started by the Rev. David Wilkerson in Brooklyn, N.Y. The book and movie, “The Cross and the Switchblade,” tells the story of those first years of ministry to drug addicts in New York City.
Teen Challenge has come to Maine and has a facility in Winthrop. The 26-member team will present stories of the transforming power of God to deliver a drug user to a responsible, respectful and productive citizen.

Hanging of greens
MEXICO – The first Sunday of Advent will be observed at the Mexico Congregational United Church of Christ (the Green Church) on Sunday, Nov. 30, at the 10 a.m. service with the lighting of a candle in the Advent wreath, accompanied by readings.
Following the worship service, members will participate in the hanging of greens. Wreaths will be made from fresh balsam boughs for the doors of the church, and garlands will be hung in the sanctuary.
Class luncheon
MEXICO – The class of 1952 of Stephens High School of Rumford will meet at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, at the Mexico Chicken Coop for luncheon. All class members are welcome.
Officers named
NORWAY – Hannah F. Richardson Tent 19, Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War 1861-1865, of Stoneham met Nov. 19 at the home of Marilyn Jones with seven members and a guest in attendance.
First nominations of officers for the upcoming year were brought before the membership: president, Gail Butterfield; senior vice president, Wanda Ryerson; junior vice president, Lynn Cummings Pike; chaplain, Marge Nihan; treasurer, Mary Jones; color bearer 1, Leslie Dean; color bearer 2, Elaine Lagueux; color bearer 3, Marge Nihan; patriotic instructor and press correspondent, Marilyn Jones. The secretary will be appointed at a later date.
Plans were made to sell refreshments before and during the Christmas parade on Saturday, Nov. 29. Members will be set up in front of Pike’s Store on Main Street.
The next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at the home of Loretta Andrews in Stoneham.
