Dr. W.S. Garcelon, medical inspector in Lewiston public schools, hopes to complete his visit in the rural schools next week. The work is very slow, as everything has to be done during school hours and each pupil has to receive so many minutes of individual attention. Dr. Garcelon says that the parents are showing much more interest in medical inspection than was predicted. They seem anxious to co-operate and have their children get as much out of it as possible.

50 years ago, 1958

Sale of real estate between Park and Middle streets owned by Mrs. Grace Peterson to Union Street Corporation was confirmed yesterday but Mrs. Peterson will continue operation of Glenwood Bakery at 10 Park St.

Union Street Corporation owns the Nanking Hotel at 18 Park St.. The Peterson property houses the bakery, Sportsman’s Tavern and the Central House.

Glenwood Bakery has been operated many years by the Peterson family and Mrs. Peterson will continue this enterprise.

25 years ago, 1983

Three-birds, dragon’s mouth and pink lady slippers, all orchids found in Maine, will be the subject of a program sponsored by the Stanton Bird Club Monday.

Barbara Vickery will show slides of these and many other orchids at the meeting, which will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the High Street Congregational Church in Auburn. The meeting is free and open to the public, and new members are encouraged to attend.
