DIXFIELD – Senior center Thomas Knight deposited 31 points as Dirigo banked an 80-29 victory over Monmouth in MVC boys’ basketball action Saturday.

The Cougars came out with great intensity and grabbed 42-17 lead at the midpoint. Kyle Hutchinson came off the bench to score 14 points, while point guard Tyler Chiasson contributed 12 points and eight rebounds.

Eric Bolduc and Nic Crutchfield was strong on defense for Dirigo, shutting down Monmouth’s leading scorers, Parker Ferland and Joshua Davis.

Tyler Whittemore led the Mustangs with 10 points in the losing effort.

Gray-NG 43, Freeport 38

FREEPORT – Evan Kenney poured in 12 points in a balanced attack as Gray-New Gloucester dispatched Freeport 43-38 in WMC boys’ basketball action Saturday.

The Patriots battled to a 21-15 halftime lead.

The Falcons surged with a bit of momentum in the second half and outpaced the Patriots with a 27-12 margin in rebounds. But, Freeport could not sustain the momentum, despite senior Jon Klages’ game-high 19 points.

Hebron 64, Gould 49

BETHEL – Milo Frank splashed 19 points to lead Hebron to a 64-49 victory over Gould in boys’ basketball action on Saturday.

The Lumberjacks (2-0) received an outstanding offensive effort from Greg Austin, who added 14 points, including four three-pointers.

The Huskies stepped up the pace in the second frame in an attempt to reverse a dismal 40-18 first half performance. Joe Johnson recorded 17 points as Gould managed to recover seven points before the final buzzer.

Greenville 67, Rangeley 24

GREENVILLE – The Greenville Lakers jumped out to a 33-7 lead at halftime and remained strong in the second half to notch a 67-24 victory over the Rangeley Lakers in both team’s season openers Saturday.

Jordan Richard led Rangeley’s offense with six points on a pair of field goals and two free throws.
