BUCKFIELD – Buckfield shut out Hebron Academy in the first quarter, allowed only two points in the first half and six through the first three quarters of a 43-16 girls’ basketball rout Monday night.

Ashlee Hamann led the Bucks (2-0) with 11 points, including two of Buckfield’s three 3-pointers.

Tristen Newton hit the other shot from beyond the arc and ended with nine points. Emily Eastman added eight.

Megan Monroe paced Hebron with eight points. Emily Powers put up six.

Mt. Abram 39, Winthrop 35

SALEM – Senior forward Kenni Norton and junior guard Mikayla Burbank scored 12 points each and lifted Mt. Abram to a 39-35 triumph over Winthrop in MVC girls’ basketball action Monday.

The Roadrunners (1-0) edged the Ramblers (1-1) by one point in the first quarter and improved to 20-16 at the half. Burbank provided a pair of treys along the way.

The second half went back-and-forth and ended with both teams scoring identical marks in each quarter.

Senior Lindsey Gordon recorded a game-high 15 points for Winthrop.

Livermore Falls 61, Boothbay 20

LIVERMORE FALLS – A full-court press in the first quarter set the tone early as Livermore Falls opened a 16-point lead and coasted to a 61-20 MVC victory over Boothbay.

The Andies (1-1) scored as many points in the first quarter as the Seahawks scored in the game, opening a 20-4 lead after the first eight minutes.

Missi O’Connor led the Andies with 13 points and Kendra Lyman added 12.

Marissa Welch dominated the boards with 19 rebounds. Meryl Jones and Kristin Sibley led Boothbay (0-2) with six points each.

Jay 45, Carrabec 19

JAY – Senior forward Liz LeBlanc and junior forward Hillary Deane posted matching 12-point tallies to lead Jay to a 45-19 rout over Carrabec in MVC girls’ basketball action Monday.

The Tigers (1-1) made good work of the middle two quarters, improving their lead by 17 points and taking a 36-13 lead after three.

LeBlanc also collected a three-pointer, six assists and five steals.

Alicha Stoddard recorded four points for the Cobras (1-1) of North Anson.

Dirigo 43, Madison 38

MADISON – Tricia Turner and Ricki Sinclair hit key free throws late in the fourth quarter to lift Dirigo to a 43-38 triumph over Madison in MVC girls’ basketball action Monday.

The reigning Western Class C champion Bulldogs (1-1) held a slight lead late in the fourth qaurter behind an impressive 19 points from sophomore forward Ali Russell.

But the Cougars (2-0) managed to stage a come back with four consecutive tosses from the charity stripe by Turner, and another three-of-four from Sinclair.

Jane Hebert recorded a team-high 13 points for Dirigo in the winning effort.
