Three cases of diphtheria have broken out in the school within a few weeks. The first was that of a Wilson child. The next was the case of Frederick Reed, who is recovering from the disease, and the last is that of Lyle Given whose death occurred early Friday morning.

The city of Auburn is seeking bids for three different contracts that will expire in January.

Bids are being received for typewriter maintenance, tires and retread tires. All three are one year contracts.

The agency which is awarded the typewriter maintenance contract will be responsible for care of the city’s 32 typewriters in several offices, said purchasing agent Jude G. Cyr.

The contract holder would be responsible for cleaning, oiling and repairs, as well as emergency calls. ANA Office Equipment of Lewiston currently holds the contract.

The city is also seeking a contract to provide the city with tires for its cars and heavy trucks.
