WEST PARIS – Voters at a special town meeting Thursday approved appropriating $50,000 to cover highway expenses for the rest of the year.

Town Manager John White said the money is needed to cover rising fuel, salt and other materials costs.

“We were doing fine up until we finished stockpiling our winter sand and salt. That used up our funding very quickly as the costs of sand and salt, fuel, hauling and stockpiling has increased rapidly this fall,” he said.

The appropriation, which will come from the undesignated fund balance, will carry the town through to the annual town meeting in March.
