FARMINGTON – After starting off with a 22-1 run in the first quarter, Mt. Blue rolled to a 68-36 rout over Skowhegan in a KVAC boys’ basketball tilt Tuesday.
Ben Russell led the Cougars (4-0) with a game-high 20 points, while Jamie Sawyer tallied 18 and Jordan Hoyt added 10. Ryan Backus also contributed with nine points, 11 rebounds and seven steals.
The Indians (1-3) were paced by Jordan Taylor with nine points, while Hank Davis added seven.
Jay 62, Mt. Abram 30
JAY – Senior forward Dylan Stefani notched a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead Jay to a 62-30 rout over Mt. Abram in MVC boys’ basketball action Tuesday evening.
The Tigers (4-0) were dominant on the boards and scored between 14 and 17 points in each quarter. Senior Kyle DeMillo netted five field goals, including three from 3-point range. Miles Hutchinson collected eight assists.
Jarrod Blood, Kenny Moir and Sam Simpson shared a team-high six points for the Roadrunners (0-3).
Gould 74, Rangeley 27
BETHEL – Junior guard Shou Yaun Bai scored a game-high 17 points as Gould dashed to a 74-27 victory over Rangeley in boys’ basketball action Tuesday evening.
The Huskies (2-1) jumped out to a 16-0 lead and finished the first quarter at 19-3. Scot Baribeau contributed 16 points, while George Murphy and Max Wales added 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Senior guard Quinn Philbrook led the Lakers (0-3) with three field goals, including two from 3-point range, for eight points in the losing effort.
Winthrop 62, Monmouth 43
WINTHROP – Skyler Whaley drained 14 points, leading a trio of players in double figures as Winthrop huslted to a 62-43 victory over Monmouth on Tuesday.
Whaley also pulled down five rebounds and blocked five shots. Andrew Smithgall chipped in with 13 points for the Ramblers (4-0), while Zack Farrington added 12. Winthrop jumped out to a 20-8 lead in the first quarter and was never challenged.
Josh Davis led the Mustangs (0-4) with 15 points, while Ryan Baillargeon added 12.
Gardiner 63, Maranacook 61
READFIELD – Mike Denham sparked a 22-14 run in the fourth quarter as Gardiner hung on for a 63-61 victory over Maranacook in boys’ basketball action Tuesday evening.
Denham finished with 16 points for the Tigers (3-1), while Eric Goodwin also posted 16. Nate Grant contributed 15 points in a well-balanced attack.
The Black Bears (2-2) were paced by Sam Poulin with a 16-point effort, while Ben Johnson added 14.
Mtn. Valley 66, Livermore Falls 48
RUMFORD – Sophomore guard Cameron Kaubris tossed in 21 points to lift Mountain Valley to a 66-48 victory over Livermore Falls in MVC boys’ basketball action Tuesday.
Travis Ruff and Matt Laubauskas notched double-doubles for the Falcons (3-0). Ruff had 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Laubauskas posted 16 points and 13 rebounds.
Senior guard Chandler White climbed scored a team-high 17 points for the Andies (0-4).
