WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – Jill Greenberg posted a triple-double to lead Williams to an 84-63 victory over the Bates women in the championship game of the Williams Winter Classic.
The victory improved the Ephs to 5-6 overall, while Bates fell to 8-3. The Bobcats are next in action when they host the University of New England on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
Williams senior Mika Peterman, who had 19 points in the victory, was named the tournament’s MVP, while Greenberg, who had 18 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists, was named to the all-tournament team, along with Bates’ Lauren Yanofsky and Val Beckwith.
Yanofsky finished with 14 points and Beckwith had 13. Annie Burns added 12 points and Kelsey Flaherty had 10. Yanofsky led the team with eight rebounds and four steals.
Chessie Jackson added 20 points and seven rebounds for Williams.
Williams opened a 10-0 lead before one minute was up , including 3-pointers by Peterman and Jackson. The lead was 49-24 at halftime.
Williams led by 20 or more for much of the second half, but a late Bates run allowed the Bobcats to creep within 12 after Flaherty nailed a three-pointer off the left wing with 4:18 to go. Williams responded with a 12-0 run.
