JAY – Junior forward Jordan DeMillo scored a game-high 15 points to lead Jay to a 59-52 victory over Telstar in MVC boys’ basketball action Thursday.
Both squads battled tough in a close first half, with the Rebels (1-7) taking a one-point lead, 32-31, into intermission. Dan Vaughn recorded a team-high 14 points for Telstar.
The Tigers (5-4) reinvigorated their defense in the second stanza, providing the opportunity to slowly pull ahead. Freshman guard Zach Bonnevie and senior center Dylan Stefani contributed 11 points apiece for Jay in the winning effort.
Morse 64, Leavitt 49
TURNER – Senior guard Alex Kee had a stellar performance with 22 points to lead Morse to a 64-49 victory over Leavitt in KVAC boys’ basketball action Thursday.
The Shipbuilders (8-2) established themselves with a 27-19 halftime lead, but broke the game open in the third quarter. Alonzo James notched all three of his 3-pointers in the third quarter, posting a 15-point total.
Senior center Doug Nash led the Hornets (1-9) with seven field goals and a pair of free throws for 18 points.
Oxford Hills 41, Brunswick 39
SOUTH PARIS – Cody Hadley nailed a pair of free throws with less than five seconds in regulation to lift Oxford Hills to a 41-39 victory over Brunswick in KVAC boys’ matchup Thursday evening.
Jordan Farrar scored nine of his game-high 19 points in the fourh quarter, leading the Vikings (6-4) to a 14-7 run that sealed the win.
The Dragons (4-6) were paced by Lukas Klein with 14 points, while Stephen Carter added 11.
Mt. Blue 73, Messalonskee 29
FARMINGTON – Ben Russell led a third-period outburst by scoring 16 of his game-high 26 points to lead Mt. Blue to a 73-29 triumph over Messalonskee.
The Cougars (7-3) jumped out to a 16-7 and 29-14 advantage after the first two quarters, then put the game away with a 26-7 run in the Russell-led third quarter.
Ryan Backus added 12 points and seven steals, while Jamie Sawyer dished out nine assists. No Messalonskee player reached double figures.
