AUBURN – Edward Little put up a wall of defense in the fourth quarter to go from a tied contest at the end of three to a 46-36 victory in KVAC girls’ basketball action Saturday afternoon.

Junior forward Kayla Cummings and junior guard Kirsten Prue paced the Red Eddies (9-2) with 12 points apiece. The Red Eddies held the Rams (4-7) scoreless in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

Senior guard Chelsea Arbour recorded 22 points on eight field goals, including four from 3-point range, and a pair of free throws for Cony.

Oxford Hills 57, Morse 40

PARIS – Lauren Brett scored 22 points, sinking 11 of 12 free-throw attempts, to lead Oxford Hills to a 57-40 victory over Morse in a KVAC girls’ basketball game Saturday.

Brett, Melanie Cloutier and Laura Courcy scored four points apiece in the first quarter to help the Vikings jump out to a 16-8 advantage. Oxford Hills slowly built the lead each quarter.

Brett sank all six foul shots in the final quarter to foil any thought of a Shipbuilders’ comeback.

Cloutier finished with 14 points and Lindsay Fox had seven. Katie Henrikson scored 13 points and Beth Suggs had 11 for Morse.

Hyde 57, Hebron 22

BATH – Stephanie Urza drained 17 points as Hyde School sailed past Hebron for a 57-22 victory in girls’ basketball action Saturday.

Hyde jumped out to a 22-5 first-quarter lead and kept widening the margin each step of the way. Keionna Besely pitched in with nine points for Hyde.

Emma Leavitt, Laura Dow and Emily Powers had matching six-point tallies for the Lumberjacks, while Malorie Johnson completed the offensive effort with four points in the loss.

Lawrence 47, Mt. Blue 28

FARMINGTON – Lawrence opened an 11-2 lead after the first quarter and coasted to a 47-28 victory over Mt. Blue.

The game was the first for Mt. Blue since the resignation of coach Tim Kane.

Kelly Murray led Lawrence with 11 points and Hayley McGee chipped in with 10. Sabrina Keach scored eight points for the Cougars and Chelsea Thompson added seven.

Brunswick 52, Leavitt 37

TURNER – Alexa Dearborn and Hillary Champagne scored 12 points each to lead Brunswick to a 52-37 victory over Leavitt.

The games was close for most of the way before the Hornets ran out of gas.

Brunswick (9-2) outscored Leavitt 16-8 in the pivotal final quarter.

Adrianna Newton led Leavitt (6-5) with 12 points and Courtney Anderson added 10.

Mt. Abram 54, Monmouth 33

SALEM – Senior guard Kenni Norton recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds to lead Mt. Abram to a 54-33 triumph over Monmouth in KVAC girls’ basketball action Saturday.

The Roadrunners (6-4) were fast out of the gate, taking a 20-8 lead after one and improving to 33-12 at the midpoint. Junior guard Nicole Eisenhaur also collected 13 points for Mt. Abram.

The Mustangs (1-9) played a bit more even in the second half, keeping pace with their rivals as both teams scored 21 points.

Junior forward Courtney McFarren tossed four field goals, including a 3-pointer, to record nine points for Monmouth.

Hockey

Hebron 5, Stanstead 2

HEBRON – Four of Hebron’s five goals came with less than a minute remaining in the period as Hebron coasted to a 5-2 victory over Stanstead in girls’ ice hockey action Saturday.

The Lumberjacks took a 3-0 lead into the first break. Sarah Markey and Kailey Bubier led the Lumberjack attack with two goals apiece, while Brittany Toth pitched in with one of her own.

Stanstead notched a power-play goal late in the second period and found the back of the net again with just 49 seconds remaining in regulation to make it 4-2.

But Hebron wasn’t satisfied with a two-point margin as Toth netted another just 10 seconds later.
