TURNER – Lucas Witham hit a 3-pointer with 14 seconds to play to give Leavitt a 57-56 victory over Cony in a KVAC boys’ basketball game Tuesday.
Cony (6-6) played welll in the first half and opened a 29-18 lead. After a scoreless first half, Doug Nash poured in 22 second-half points to ignite Leavitt’s rally. Nash also grabbed 10 rebounds and Cam Griffin had eight assists fopr the Hornets (2-10).
The Rams’ bid for the game winner failed when Brian Carville’s 3-pointer missed its mark. Carville finished with a team-high 17 points, while Jake Lachance and Greg O’Neil had 10 points each.
Mt. Blue 71, Nokomis 35
FARMINGTON – Mt. Blue used a 26-4 run in the second quarter to run away with a 71-35 triumph over Nokomis.
Ben Russell led the charge by scoring 11 of his team-high 17 points in the second quarter. Jamie Sawyer added 11 points and Andy Trask scored eight. Ryan Backus hauled down nine rebounds for the Cougars (9-3).
Jordan Richards finished with 18 points to score more than half of Nokomis’ points.
Buckfield 49, Valley 48
BINGHAM – Senior forward Tyler Weymouth notched the game-winning field goal with one second on the clock to lift Buckfield to a 49-48 victory over Valley.
Weymouth contributed to the Buck’s (4-6) big win with a game-high 22 points on seven field goals and seven free throws, including a 3-pointer. Kyle Rines chipped in with 12 points for Buckfield.
Junior center Chris Deane paced the Cavaliers (2-6) with a team-high 14 points, while Cam Miller tossed 12 points in the losing effort.
EL 67, Brunswick 49
AUBURN – Senior forward Corey Therriault tallied a team-high 19 points and seven assists, James Philbrook registered a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards and Shane Ciriello scored 14 points to lead Edward Little to a 67-49 victory over Brunswick.
Trailing by one at the break, the Eddies outscored the Dragons 26-13 in the third quarter, led by Therriault’s 10 points and Ciriello’s nine. The defensive intensity picked up in the fourth quarter as the Eddies surrendered just eight points to seal the win.
Sean Daigle added six points and 10 rebounds for the Eddies (10-2) and Yusuf Iman chipped in with nine points.
Raushaun Edgerton canned a game-high 24 points for the Dragons (5-7) and Robbie Basquez added nine.
Yarmouth 74, Poland 55
POLAND – Johnny Murphy scored an electrifying 32 points to lead Yarmouth to a 74-55 victory over Poland.
Murphy recorded 11 field goals, including four from beyond the arc, and six from the charity stripe for the Clippers (8-3). Andrew Totta pitched in with 10 points in the winning effort.
Kevin Payette led the Knights (2-11) with 12 points, while Jonah Farrington added nine points for Poland.
OOB 46, St. Dom’s 38
OLD ORCHARD BEACH – Matt Regan drained 14 points in a balanced attack as Old Orchard Beach sailed to a 46-38 victory over St. Dom’s.
The Seagulls (6-3) led 25-18 at the half. Dean Perrone chipped in with three field goals, including two from 3-point range for eight points.
Aaron Allen notched a double-double for the Saints (6-5) with 10 points and 11 rebounds in the losing effort.
Morse 74, Lewiston 61
LEWISTON – Alex Kee compiled 27 points to power Morse to a 74-61 victory over Lewiston.
The Shipbuilders (10-2) steamed ahead slowly in the first half, earning a four-point margin in the first quarter and another two in the second for a 36-30 lead at intermission. Mike Walton contribted 15 points for Morse.
Ronnie Turner led the Blue Devils (2-10) with a respectable 16 points, while Chuck Faletra and Andy Pulk collected 13 points apiece for Lewiston.
Lincoln 52, Oak Hill 38
NEWCASTLE – Lincoln Academy broke opened a close game with a 20-5 spurt in the third quarter to pull away for a 52-38 victory over Oak Hill.
Lincoln (5-6) led 23-18 at the half before the decisive third quarter.
Matt Poole led the hosts with 22 points and Pat Mullin added 10. Shawn Greenier scored 15 points to pace Oak Hill (1-11), while Ben Foss added 11.
Girls’ basketball
Hyde 40, Rangeley 30
BATH – Stephanie Urzua poured in a game-high 23 points to propel Hyde to a 40-30 victory over Rangeley in a girls’ basketball tilt Tuesday.
Hyde (4-0) built a five-point advantage in the first quarter and outscored its opponent by two in the final two frames.
The Lakers (6-5) were paced by Angela White with 15 points, while Emily Carrier added seven. Rangeley put up a good fight despite being without star forward Hayley White, who missed the game due to illness.
Valley 53, Buckfield 33
BINGHAM – Valley handed the defending Western D champions from Buckfield its first loss of the season Tuesday in a 53-33 EWC girls’ basketball .
Cindy Schultz led the Cavaliers (8-2) with 21 points, while Jocelyn Lawreyson added 13.
The Bucks (8-1) were paced by Lindsay Handerson with 18 points, while Tristan Newton and Abby Jones each added five.
Valley, which lost in Buckfield earlier in the season, jumped out to a 17-8 advantage in the first quarter and was never challenged.
St. Dom’s 41, OOB 30
AUBURN – Defensive pressure in the fourth quarter allowed St. Dom’s to pull away in the fourth quarter for a 41-30 victory over Old Orchard Beach.
The Saints (7-4) were clinging to a 27-25 lead after three quarters before outscoring the Seagulls 14-5 in the pivotal final period.
Allaina Murphy led St. Dom’s with a game-high 18 points. The Saints dominated the boards with Sarah Gosselin, Kelsey Murphy and Allaina Murphy all grabbing eight rebounds.
Jillian Foss led Old Orchard with 11 points.
Jay 63, Georges Valley 23
THOMASTON – Senior forward Liz LeBlanc scored 29 points to lead Jay to a 63-23 rout over Georges Valley.
The Tigers (9-2) started early with a 22-6 run in the first quarter, and did not let up over the course of the contest. Beth Moore collected 11 points, nine rebounds and five steals for Jay.
Jill Bradbury had a team-high five points for the Buccaneers (5-6) in the losing effort.
Seacoast 34, Hebron 32
HEBRON – Jaylyn Acres and Amberle Bennet tossed 13 points apiece to lift Seacoast Christian to a 34-32 triumph over Hebron in girls’ basketball action Tuesday.
The Lumberjacks (1-6) were down by two at the half and fell nine points behind Seacoast (6-2) in the third quarter. Though Hebron made a run for it in the final quarter, it fell just a field goal short at the final buzzer.
Laura Dow paced Hebron with 11 points, while Emma Leavitt and Malorie Johnson added nine and eight points, respectively.
Mtn. Valley 51, Madison 20
RUMFORD – Senior guard Lauren LePage tossed in 15 points to lead Mountain Valley to a 51-20 victory over Madison in MVC girls’ basketball action Tuesday.
The Falcons (8-3) applied strong defensive pressure over the middle two quarters to enable a 30-9 run.
Senior forward Brittany Williams led the Bulldogs (6-5) with a pair of field goals and a free throw for five points.
Yarmouth 51, Poland 21
YARMOUTH – Alexa Doyer netted 12 points and pulled down seven rebounds for Poland as they fell victim to Yarmouth, 51-21, in a WMC girls’ basketball matchup Tuesday.
Brittany Michaud chipped in for the Knights (0-11) with four points and seven rebounds. Yarmouth jumped out to a 20-2 advantage in the first quarter and was never challenged.
Winthrop 45, Boothbay 25
WINTHROP – Winthrop used a 13-6 run in the second quarter to take control of the contest and stretched out to a 45-25 victory over Boothbay.
Anna Smithgall led the Ramblers (8-2) with 21 points, 19 of which were scored in the second and third quarters. Kelsey Ouellette chipped in for Winthrop with six points.
Boothbay (1-9) was paced by Kristin Sibley with nine points, the only player approaching double figures.
Gray-NG 39, Falmouth 36
GRAY – Gray-New Gloucester rallied for a 13-6 run in the fourth quarter to pull out a 39-36 victory over Falmouth.
Rachel Clement led the Patriots (7-4) with 11 points, while Laura Getchell added seven and hauled down seven rebounds.
Falmouth (5-6) was paced by Hayley Jordan with 10 points and Kelsey Graffam added nine.
Gray-New Gloucester battled back from a five-point deficit in the final two minutes to post the win.
Cony 59, Leavitt 41
AUGUSTA – Brittany Ford poured a game-high 20 points to propel Cony to a 59-41 triumph over Leavitt.
MacKenzie Dufour chipped in for the Rams (5-7) with 12 points, while Kayla Arbour added eight. Cony jumped out to a 10-point lead in the first quarter and pulled steadily away from there.
The Hornets (6-6) were paced by Courtney Anderson with 15 points, while Abbey Randall tallied 11.
Morse 58, Lewiston 39
BATH – Tarra Burr’s 10 first-quarter points sparked a 19-6 run that proved to be the difference as Morse ran away with a 58-36 win over Lewiston on Tuesday.
The Blue Devils (0-12) closed the gap to nine at the break, but ran out of gas at the end.
Jaime Swart paced the Devils with 12 points and Ashlee LaBonte added nine.
Burr finished with a game-high 16 points for the Shipbuilders (2-10) and Beth Suggs added 11.
Lisbon 42, Hall-Dale 39, OT
FARMINGDALE – Kelly Bourgoin hit a key 3-pointer in the overtime frame as Lisbon unraveled Hall-Dale 42-39 in MVC girls’ basketball action Tuesday.
In a game of several lead changes, Taylor Massey tied the game in the final seconds of regulation with a field goal for the Bulldogs (7-4). Massey recorded a team-high nine points, while Jess Woods matched with nine of her own.
Amber Cloutier led the Greyhounds (8-4) with 11 points, and Stephanie Smith ran runner-up with 10 points. But, Rene Moore hit a field goal and two free throws in the overtime frame in a demonstration of sharing the workload for Lisbon.
Dirigo 39, Liv. Falls 23
DIXFIELD – Jane Hebert was the only player to reach double figures in a defensive battle with 12 points to lead Dirigo to a 39-23 triumph over Livermore Falls.
The Cougars (8-3) led 11-7, 16-10 and 27-18 at the quarter breaks.
Trish Turner and Morgan Hutchins added nine points apiece for Dirigo. Kendra Hutchins led Livermore Falls (6-5) with seven points.
Ox. Hills 50, Mt. Ararat 36
TOPSHAM – Lindsay Fox drained 15 points to lead Oxford Hills to a 50-36 victory over Mt. Ararat in KVAC girls’ basketball action Tuesday.
The Vikings raced to a 26-13 halftime lead. Fox pocketed four field goals and 10 free throws, while Melanie Cloutier chipped in with four field goals as well.
Tegan Talbot led the Eagles with 10 points .
Girls’ hockey
Lewiston 4, Winthrop/Maranacook 0
LEWISTON – Mariah Conway netted a pair of goals as unbeaten Lewiston skated to a 4-0 victory over Winthrop/Maranacook on Tuesday.
Courtney Vallee and Katie Cobb also tallied for the Blue Devils (10-0), while Tamara Roy, Katie Bonawitz, Bianca Langelier, Allison Lafreniere, Ashley Chase and Junior Marden were all credited with assists.
Stephanie Belanger was steadfast in goal for Lewiston, while the defensive unit worked to keep Winthrop/Maranacook away from the net.
