Auburn Avalanche Peewee House Hockey team got a strong effort from its defensemen to defeat Lewiston White, 4-2, at Androscoggin Bank Colisee on Saturday morning. A similar performance staked the Avs to a 2-2 tie with Gardiner on their home ice at Ingersoll Arena later in the day.

Shuler Lamothe, Kevin Knight, Austin Thompson and Colin Benson led the Avalanche defensively.

Auburn got on the board in the first period against Lewiston with a goal by Branden Dyer, Benson assisting. Lewiston knotted the issue at 1-1 in the second period on a goal by Troy Cyr, assisted by Tyler Roy and Aaron Vaillancourt.

Ryan Lavoie scored with help from Dyer and Isaiah Dubois in the second period. Lewiston fought back with a single goal by Roy with assists to Vaillancourt and Andrew Loisel in the third, but Auburn scored two goals to seal the victory.

Captain Kyle Knight scored the eventual game-winner with an assist from Lavoie. The Avalanche closed out the scoring with Dubois getting on the board. Dyer was credited with the assist. Goalie Nick Hemond made several key saves during the game for the Avalanche.

Auburn pushed its record to 6-0-2 over the last eight games with the deadlock against Gardiner. Hemond had an outstanding game to frustrate the visitors, particularly in the opening period.

Dyer converted a feed from Kevin Knight to put the Avalanche on top.

Gardiner answered with less than a minute to play in the opening frame with a unassisted goal by Nathan Lord.

Winger Tynan Collins scored his first career goal to give the Avs the second-period lead. Dyer and Dubois delivered the assists. Lord notched the equalizer in the third with his second unassisted tally.

Auburn returns to action with another double dip this weekend.
