During a ceremony last Friday, October 3rd, Trinity Catholic School’s first grade teacher, Kathy Jalbert, was honored as Wal-Mart’s 2008 Teacher of the Year. The award was presented to Mrs. Jalbert by Wal-Mart Distribution Center employee Anna-Marie Lewis, and General Transportation Manager James Farrell. Both Wal-Mart representatives presented Mrs. Jalbert with flowers and a $100.00 gift card to Wal-Mart. They also presented a check for $1,000.00 to Trinity Catholic School on behalf of Mrs. Jalbert. Principal Paul Yarnevich was quoted in his recent letter to parents as: “Mrs. Jalbert has served students in Catholic education since 1988 and done so with great dedication, expertise and creativity.”

Kathy Jalbert began her teaching career in 1979 in speech correction. Nine years later she was employed by St. Joseph’s School in Lewiston to teach second grade and later first. “I saw how the teachers cared for my children as if they were their own. I knew that this was how I wanted to teach children.” Mrs. Jalbert said in response to her work in education. She continues to teach first grade as the three Catholic schools in the Lewiston/Auburn community have consolidated to the new Trinity Catholic School since 2006. Today, she teaches in hope that her students feel the same way that her own children feel; that they are loved by those who are entrusted to care for them like those at Trinity.
