NEW YORK (AP) – A commodities broker who police say was intoxicated was arrested after he allegedly tried to set fire to a freight elevator he was trapped in.
Police say an inebriated Ryan Brinkerhoff, of Jersey City, went to his office at 7 World Trade Center in lower Manhattan early Saturday and got trapped in a freight elevator.
Police say Brinkerhoff tried set a fire in the elevator with cleaning fluids in an effort to attract attention.
The smoke activated a fire alarm, which sent the elevator to the ground floor where Port Authority Police were waiting.
Brinkerhoff was arraigned Sunday on charges of burglary and arson. He was released on his own recognizance. A number for him could not immediately be found.
