RUMFORD – Travis Ruff recorded a triple-double with 14 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists to lead Mountain Valley to a 69-30 triumph over Telstar.

The Falcons (14-2) broke the game open with a 24-12 spurt in the second quarter to take a 35-19 lead at the half.

Ruff also recorded seven steals. Cameron Kaubris scored a game-high 17 points and had six thefts. Jon Benjamin sank five 3-pointers for 15 points. Dan Vaughn led Telstar with six points and six rebounds.

Madison 60, Monmouth 49

MADISON – Senior forward Simon Elias notched a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds as Madison fended off a scrappy Monmouth, 60-49.

The Bulldogs (11-5) jumped out to a 30-19 halftime lead. Sam Perkins contributed 16 points, while Ezra Gourley added 13 points for Madison.

The Mustangs (1-15) kept the Bulldog’s defense guessing in the second half, playing to a 30-30 tie across the two frames to prevent any additional bleeding. Eric Smith led Monmouth with nine points in the losing effort.

Dirigo 74, Mt. Abram 32

DIXFIELD – Thomas Knight recorded a commanding 17 points and 12 rebounds as Dirigo rolled over Mt. Abram 74-32.

The Cougars (17-0) turned a six-point first quarter margin into a 30-point halftime lead at 43-13.

The spread remained the same after three quaters, but Dirigo poured it on again in the fourth with an 18-6 run. Tyler Chiasson provided 15 points and four assists, while Nic Crutchfield tallied five steals.

Sam Simpson led the Roadrunners (4-12) with 12 points, and Jim Baker added 10 in the losing effort.

Girls’ basketball

Mountain Valley 58, Livermore Falls 31

LIVERMORE FALLS – Junior guard Lauren LePage mustered 14 points as Mountain Valley cruised to a 58-31 victory over Livermroe Falls.

The Falcons (13-3) were a bit more aggressive on offense, making many shots from the outside. Mountain Valley led 30-17 at the half.

Freshman guard Kathryn Ventrella notched a team-high eight points for the Andies (8-9) on three field goals and a pair of free throws.

Jay 45, Mt. Abram 39

SALEM – Junior forward Hillary Deane tickled the twines with 25 points as Jay picked themselves up by the bootstraps for a 45-39 victory over Mt. Abram in MVC girls’ basketball action Saturday.

The Roadrunners (11-5) jumped out to a 20-5 lead in the first quarter, but failed to maintain the momentum over the ensuing three quarters. Senior forward Kenni Norton notched a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds for Mt. Abram.

Deane was consistant throught the contest for the Tigers (12-3). If she wasn’t scoring field goals, she was making free throws, going 9-of-12 from the charity stripe.

Richmond 55, Hebron 38

HEBRON – Megan DeRaps erupted for a game-high 30 points to lead Richmond in a 55-38 victory over Hebron.

The Bobcats jumped out to an 18-11 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, allowing just four points in the second quarter.

Brooke Lancaster added eight points, six rebounds and four steals for the Bobcats (5-11). Megan Munro led the Lumberjacks (1-12) with 13 points and Emma Leavitt added 12.

Girls’ hockey

Maranacook/Winthrop 1, Brunswick 0

READFIELD – Katherine Fortin scored the game-winning goal in the first period, and Maranacook/Winthrop (3-12) held on for a 1-0 victory over Brunswick (1-14) in a girls’ hockey game Saturday.

Fortin scored on a Sandy Leimbach feed with 8:06 left in the first stanza. Maranacook/Winthrop goalie Ashley Marcellino made eight saves to earn the shutout.

Boys’ hockey

Poland/Gray-New Gloucester 7, Sanford 0

HEBRON – Sophomore winger Colby Arnold tallied a hat trick, scoring a goal in each period, and Nate Becker added a pair of goals as Poland/Gray-New Gloucester blanked Sanford 7-0 on Saturday.

Jake Trickey and Tyler Snow lit the lamp in the first period to begin the scoring for the Patriotic Knights (11-3). Arnold’s 20-foot wrist shot put an exclamation point on the win with 11:14 remaining in the third period.

Sean Bilodeau turned back 15 shots to earn the shutout.

Robbie Dudzisz blocked 34 shots for the Redskins.
