A. L. Harmon, for two years proprietor of The Tavern, Main Street, Lewiston, has sold out his business and transferred the lease of the building to E. N. Billings of Auburn.

Mr. and Mrs. Harmon will move to Old Orchard where a good business opening awaits Mr. Harmon. Both Mr. and Mrs. Harmon are well known in these cities, and under their management The Tavern has maintained a high standard and done a good business. Mr. Harmon has clerked in some of the best hotels in New England.

He has made a host of friends in these cities, who will regret to learn that he is soon to move to another place.

50 years ago, 1959

Three more finalists have been named to compete for the title of Miss Lewiston-Auburn at pageant festivities on Friday, March 20, at the Lewiston High School auditorium. Winners will be eligible to compete for the title of Miss Maine.

Miss Roseanne Aliberti is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Aliberti of Lewiston.

Nancy Davis is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs Seth Davis of Auburn.

Joye Clark is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Clark of New Gloucester.

25 years ago, 1984

A quartet of professional singers from Boston who specialize in introducing young audiences to opera are appearing in Lewiston-Auburn schools this week. Sponsored by LPL Plus APL, the ensemble will present the idea of opera as fun through the stories that are told, emotions that are expressed and participation of students in the audience.

Programs are scheduled for McMahon, St. Peter’s, Sherwood Heights, Farwell, Frye, Multi Purpose, Fairview and Edward Little.
