AUBURN – It was raining threes at Kirk Hall Gymnasium on Saturday as Central Maine Community College hit the century mark for the first time this season with a 103-95 victory over North Essex Community College of Haverhill, Mass.

The teams hit a combined 26 shots from behind the arc with Nate Damm leading the way for the Mustangs with six 3-pointers and 26 points. Matt Sceviour turned in a double-double with 18 points and 10 assists while Cam Angell hit for 20 points and Tyler Smithgall finished with 15 points, seven boards and six assists.

The Mustangs (17-5) shot 62 percent from the floor, out-rebounded the Knights 46-36 and led by nine at the break. Bronson Drewry was 3-for-3 from downtown to lead the Mustang bench with nine points while Brennen Morton hit a pair for six points. Ismael Rios caught fire for the Knights (12-9) hitting nine of 16 from 3-point range en route to a game-high 38 points. Timothy Bent poured in 21 and Anthony Siri added 14.

UMaine-Fort Kent 78, UMaine-Augusta 72

FORT KENT – Freshman forward Brandon Fox notched a game-high 24 points to lead the University of Maine at Fort Kent to a 78-72 victory over the University of Maine at Augusta in men’s basketball action Saturday.

The Bengels (14-9) palyed nip and tuck throughout the contest until Woogy Bassue hit three 3’s down the stretch to open the door and walk in for the win.

Senior point guard Deon Cheers scored 21 points for the Moose (8-15), while Herby Davis contributed 17 points in the losing effort.

Bates 54, Trinity 53

LEWISTON – Marshall Hatch tipped in a basket to beat the final buzzer and lift Bates College to a 54-53 victory over Trinity College in NESCAC men’s basketball action Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium

The Bantams (7-13) had gone ahead 53-52 on a Paul Rowe layup with eight seconds left. Rowe was fouled on the play, but he missed the ensuing free throw.

Bates junior Chris Wilson rebounded and took the ball down court, before passing to Ben Thayer. Thayer fired off a 3-point attempt from the left wing, but the shot caromed off to the right, where Hatch reached it and tipped it softly over the rim for the game-winner.

Bates sophomore Nick Schmiemann recieved his first start and scored a career-high 6 points, while Wilson added 15. Jimmy O’Keefe added a team-high six rebounds for the Bobcats (12-10), including two big buckets in the final 1:19 of the game.

UMaine-Farmington 54, Maine Maritime 37

FARMINGTON – Ted Neil of Strong tallied 16 points and Josh Tanguay supplied another 12 points as the University of Maine at Farmington sailed to a 54-37 victory over Maine Maritime Academy in NAC men’s basketball action Saturday.

The Beavers (9-10) built a 19-point lead, only to have the Mariners (7-13) close the gap to 42-33 with 8:04 remaining in regulation. But, Farmington rolled off the game’s next 10 points, holding the Mariners scoreless for six minutes.

Derek DiFrederico led the Mariners with 11 points.

Eric Taylor yanked down 15 boards for the Beavers, and Anderw Dean collected eight assists in the winning effort.

Women’s basketball

Central Maine CC 80, Northern Essex CC 54

AUBURN – Michelle Holmquist’s double-double (17 points, 13 assists) led three Mustangs in double figures as Central Maine Community College ran away from Northern Essex Community College of Haverhill, Mass. 80-54 on Saturday.

Carrie Jamison was five of six from the field and added a pair of free throws for 12 points to complement her four rebounds and Britney Salley tallied 11 points, six boards and three assists.

The Mustangs (16-5) led 37-26 at the half and came out strong in the second half with a 10-0 run to put the game away. Ashley Quimby hit three treys to nine points while Christie McAuliffe and Kayla Ellis scored eight apiece. McAuliffe and Teira Durgin each dished out five assists.

Sarah Dubois registered 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Knights (8-6) while Mary Sicard added 15 points.

The Mustangs have clinched the second seed in the Yankee Conference with the Final Four scheduled for Feb. 20-21.

Bates 68, Trinity 54

HARTFORD, Conn. – Senior forward Val Beckwith tossed a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds as Bates switched on the after burners for a 68-54 victory over Trinity in NESCAC women’s basketball action Saturday.

The Bantams (15-5) stayed within striking distance until under five minutes remained in regulation. Bates rookies Kelsey Flaherty and Kristen Finn combined to score seven unanswered points in 1:38 and increase the Bobcat (16-7) lead to double figures at 62-50.

Sophomore forward Molly McGlynn finished with a game-high 15 points, nine rebounds and a pair of blocked shots for Trinity.

First-year Annie Burns dished out a game-high six assists, while Flaherty had one of her finest games of the season with seven points, five rebounds, four assits and three steals for Bates.

UMaine-Farmington 60, Maine Maritime 49

FARMINGTON – Brittany York of Strong netted a career-high 16 points and Caitlyn Laflin added points as the University of Maine at Farmington notched a 60-49 victory over Maine Maritime Academy in NAC women’s basketball action Saturday.

The Beavers’ (10-10) opened a 25-11 commanding lead midway through the first half on superior shooting. Farmington made 13-of-34 shots, while the Mariners only made 6-of-24 shots.

The Mariners (7-13) pecked away at Farmington’s 13-point lead in the second half, but could only trim the deficit to as low as eight points in the losing effort.
