Rumford Falls has its hopes high for a new opera house. The idea is to have a restaurant in the basement. The ground floor is intended for an armory, provided that the town will appropriate a sum of money for the purpose. The theatre would be on the second floor and would be as large as the Empire in Lewiston.

The annual coronation ball of Lisbon High School was held at the gymnasium on Saturday evening, to a full capacity attendance, and crowned as queen was Miss Karen Beganny, popular member and an honor student of the senior class. The coronation for Miss Beganny was the same honor as her mother, Mrs. John Beganny, the former Jane Dearnley, received in 1938, when she was crowned queen of the first coronation ball the school ever held and which has been held annually ever since.

TURNER – An ordinance to limit the hours customers of a “bottle club,” such as the Circle Electric here, can drink will likely be before voters at the annual town meeting next month, according to First Selectman Forest Gilbert.

A group of “concerned citizens” will be presenting their version of such an ordinance to selectmen during a meeting at the town office Monday night, one of the citizens said Sunday night.

North Turner resident Frank Holcomb said he will be one of those at the Monday meeting. He said enough residents have signed a petition backing the proposed ordinance to have it be placed on the warrant for the town meeting. The citizens have until Wednesday to present their petition to selectmen.
